![]() Autumn on the coast is one of the most spectacular times in California. Most people do not realize that this is the best weather we may have all year round and the crowds have gone leaving space for quiet reflection and taking in the surroundings on ones own. One of my own favorite contemplative walks is just opposite from the Hearst Castle entrance at what us locals call "the Cove" in San Simeon. There you may stroll down the sandy beach and wander up through the sweet smelling eucalyptus grove till it reveals a sea weathered point facing north. One feels like you are on a bow of a ship, exposed to all the elements of sky, wind and sea. The trail winds along the coastline till it fades away in to the mist. I explore the area with a new friend that just moved to the central coast and am able to lead her into the "enchanted forest" where your imagination expects to see King Arthur and Gueinevere come galloping by.on their majestic horses. My new friend is wide eyed and she takes it all in with her large cannon to capture the moment. It is a moment to pause, soak in all that is around and just breathe in with delight. Oh how amazing creation is here and just how privileged we are to be able to live here. I can't stop smiling and savor this day of sharing.

There are so many new wineries popping up with events going on throughout summer and fall. Summer has arrived in Cambria as the days become warmer and the fog starts to roll in.
Today I say a herd of zebra right along the road with the black angus cows on the ranch. Took a walk at the cove to discover lots of sea glass and tiny orange scallop shaped shells. It is such a wonder and delight to watch what emerges from the sea as the tides vary and what the waves toss up on the shore. In the morning there are so few people that I almost believe this beach is mine alone but I realize it belongs to us all and beckons each to come, delight and enjoy the many treasures that await. It's the best keep secret that January is one of the best months to visit the coast. The crowds are small and the sun is almost always out, low and shimmering on the surface of the sea. I love this time of the year with all the surprises that come with each new day. The sunsets vary in spectacular color with orange and pink clouds spattered throughout the sky. The wild sea life have descended to the area with pelicans fishing and whales spouting, sea lion roaring, what could be better than this? Paradise awaits.
Bring your camera and also take note of the different events that happen in January. See the links for the Annual Art and Wine festival the end of the month and coastal wine trails. There is always something happening in Cambria._ _ Come and join in with our New Christmas Market just like in Europe.

We have so many talented artists in the town that create the most interesting and fun scarecrows through out Cambria for the whole month of October. It is a great time to come out and experience the small town art community.

October also features Open studios which start the weekend of October 13-14 & 20-21. Come see the artists at work in their own studios throughout Cambria and the San Luis Obispo county. artsobispo.org/oopenstudios |
